So…. this isn’t a fashion blog post but it IS about enjoying life, so I think it’s appropriate. People who know me know I LOVE California. I also love a vacation. Who doesn’t, right? I was born in Monterey, but I left when I was 5 years old. I got back to California as soon as I could after that. Even though I live in the Bay Area now, I had not been back to Monterey since I was five. I finally made my pilgrimage back to Monterey last week. Even though I was pretty young when I left, I’ve seen a few photos of me in pigtails and a puffy jacket, standing in front of ships docked at the wharf. I remembered how picturesque Monterey is. When I arrived back there last week, I felt like I was in a postcard. It is gorgeous.
Here are 5 things to do when you visit Monterey, in no particular order:
Eat. The seafood is incredible. While I was there I visited The Fish Hopper for dinner and First Awakenings for breakfast.
Visit Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row. I tasted every clam chowder sample there was to taste.
Take the “17-mile drive” in Pebble Beach. It’s a scenic drive with lots of stops along the way for you to stop and take pictures or just take it all in and breathe.
Monterey Bay Aquarium – I did not visit the aquarium this time around, because I was only there for a couple of days, plus underwater creatures kind of gross me out unless they’re on my plate (see tip #1).
Go whale-watching. You can find discounted tickets on Groupon. We saw a bunch of whales but I was always too slow with my camera so the best photo I got only showed the tip of a fin. Oh well. I have the memories.
