Hey party people. You deserve a bath. I don’t mean you deserve “to bathe.”…Duh! You already do that daily. When is the last time you took a bath? I’m talking about fully relaxing in a hot bubble bath with Epsom salts, essential oils, and candles burning. Maybe there’s a certain playlist that relaxes you. Maybe it’s the sound of waves or raindrops. If it’s Drake, turn it on. Once I turned on the HBO show Ballers on my tablet and soaked for a good hour. Whether you find joy in listening to waves crash, or if jazz music puts you in your happy place, do it. Whatever floats your boat. Or your loofah. (Ha!)
My work coach recommended I set a goal to take care of myself. I set a goal of taking weekly baths. I did a great job of soaking every Sunday afternoon. After about six months, I fell off track. It’s about time I reinstitute my weekly bath ritual. I work hard all week (and I play hard all weekend). I deserve that peaceful, comforting solitude and so do you.
I remember the first bath I took after setting that goal. The water enveloped me like a warm cocoon. I ran the water, added Epsom salts and Bath and Body Works bubble bath, lit my Soyful Aromas candle, and proceeded to soak. After about three minutes, I started to feel guilty. I had thoughts like: What are you doing?? You should be doing something productive! I felt a wave of anxiety. But you know what? That was the most productive thing I could’ve been doing at that moment. I had just worked a full week and I’d run a half marathon that morning. I decided that for the next 30 minutes, I was going to just relax in the bath. That was my job at that moment. Thoughts entered my mind, and I let them enter and leave. I brought my focus back to relaxing. I stepped out of the bath feeling relaxed and happy. Then I took a nap for two hours. Best. Afternoon. Ever.
