Being “In” Style vs. Having Style

May 23, 2016

You can take any woman and put her in the latest, hottest designer outfit, but if she doesn’t have her own personal style that shows through, the look will fail. When you have your own personal style, you can look like a million bucks wearing clothes from the thrift store. You could also spend a million bucks on what’s “in style” and look totally uncomfortable.

A friend (we’ll call her Gina, just because) told me that someone at her job dressed as her for fun one day. Gina had such unmistakable, impeccable personal style that anyone could identify her in a photo from the neck down. If your style is so unmistakable that someone could dress like you and everyone recognizes it, congratulations, you’ve got a personal style.

My closet is all over the place these days. The only clothes I like are the ones in my sketchbook. It’s time to clean house. While procrastinating about cleaning out my closet today, I came across a blog post by The Every Girl called “8 Tips to Help You Find Your Personal Style” which gave me the motivation to start purging my closet of the things that don’t fall in line with my personal style.

Do you know someone with their own personal style?
