Paddling Out

April 9, 2016

It’s been awhile since the last blog post. I’ve been traveling a lot for the day job. I haven’t even filled you all in on the meeting I had with the factory two weeks ago in L.A. to drop off my sample fabric and spec sheet for the silk top, which is the first piece in my debut collection.

My meeting was AMAZING! I met with the owner of the factory and he was excited about my shirt, which made me excited. He offered some suggestions on which seams to use to finish the edges, and suggested a facing for the neckline so that the company label won’t have to be sewn into the body of the shirt, giving the shirt a nice finished look.

Prior to the meeting I had to re-teach myself how to do a technical sketch in Illustrator. I’ve made dozens of technical sketches when I was in school and then when I worked in product development, but that was years ago. So I downloaded the new Adobe Illustrator and cracked open the book “Electric Fashion” by Vanessa Newsome. I took the tech sketch, size chart, fabric, and labels to the factory, had the awesome meeting, and now here we are. Now we wait for the first sample…
