Red vs. Pink

February 6, 2016

I was watching "Grease: Live" that came on last week (so awesome) and I started thinking about how cool the Pink Ladies were. I’ve always been a pink girl. When I was little, I had bubblegum pink legwarmers that I refused to take off. I’d float around the house singing that song by Katrina and The Waves, “I’m walking on sunshine….WHOA-OHHH!” A few years later I had a beret and gloves set that were color-blocked in hot pink and yellow. I wore my “raspberry beret” everywhere. I’ve never been a red girl. I’m Team Pink all the way. I am bubblegum-Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go-cotton candy-PINK.

My mom is red. She is fiery and mysterious and has worn red lipstick every day since as far back as I can remember. Red is hot and sexy. Red is Cookie Lyon, Dita Von Teese, the Robert Palmer girls, Elizabeth Taylor, and my mother.

Some women are red and some are pink. What does that say about them, or me? Are the red women intense? Are the pink women more adolescent? Or just more fun?
